I get asked about recommendations for afternoon tea in Birmingham quite a bit, and I don’t blame people because it’s a fabulous tradition. Sadly I think Birmingham city centre lacks the cafes and tea rooms of nearby Stratford-upon-Avon, Leamington Spa and Lichfield. But we do have some cracking spots for afternoon tea – and it’s always recommended to book, if you want to indulge. The list below is nowhere near extensive, but it is a collection of blog posts on afternoon tea that can be found in Birmingham to give you some ideas.
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
Enjoy a spot of culture and work up an appetite by wandering around the fabulous Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, and then stop for a spot of afternoon tea in an Edwardian Tearoom. If you want to know what I made of it, check out my review of the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery afternoon tea.
Chocoholics will love this one; a trip round Bournville’s Cadbury World to whet the appetite and then enjoy an afternoon tea with some chocolate treats. This one is only available during certain times of the year, but read what I made of Cadbury World’s afternoon tea.
This is probably my favourite afternoon tea in Birmingham – the setting, the amuse bouche…it’s to die for. Check out my review of The Edgbaston’s afternoon tea on the blog for more info – I’m going back for seconds soon.
Hotel la Tour
Until The Edgbaston unseated it, Hotel la Tour was my favourite afternoon tea in the city. Although I’d still say it’s probably my favourite in the city centre. I’ve been a few times, pre-blog, but I did manage to write up my experiences of a festive afternoon tea at Hotel la Tour and it was as good as the other visits.
